Donald Ray McCartney

Funeral services for Donald Ray McCartney, age 68, were held on Sunday, August 9, at 4 P.M. at Hunt Funeral Home, officiated by his best friend in Christ, Kent Holland. Burial was in Belew’s Chapel Cemetery. Visitation with the family was held from 1 P.M. until service time at the funeral home.

Don was born January 3, 1952 to Rev. Ray McCartney and Mrs. Modean Baker McCartney who preceded him in death. He is survived by a son, Clinton Ray McCartney, daughter-in-law Tiffany Whitney McCartney, two grandchildren Michael Ray McCartney and Whitney Camille McCartney, all of Palm Beach Florida; a sister Janice Jones and a brother-in-law Danny Jones of Trenton, TN.

He attended Pickard Elementary School in Chicago, Bradford Elementary School, graduated Bradford High School class of 1969, Tennessee Vocational Learning Center in Newbern, University of Tennessee Martin, Georgia Tech Marietta Campus, Oakland City University graduating with a BA degree in Religious Studies.

He worked as a construction draftsman, estimator, project manager, general manager, and vice president of companies such as Owens Engineering, Phelan Co., Allen Searcy Builder Contractor, Fisher Co., Stanley Jones, Wolfe Companies, and TRC Construction.

His hobbies included fishing, hunting, motorcycle riding, 4 wheel drive autos, swapping vehicles (just to have a different ride from time to time).

He really enjoyed watching people/watching God, learning of people and learning of God. These must be seen hand-in-hand, for that is the way of our creator and His creature-humanity. He loves us and we must love Him back. His last word “Read the Red.” “My words are spirit and they are life”, Jesus said. Don is very grateful for the family and friends that loved him.

He pastored Columbia Church in Princeton, Indiana, New Harmony Church in Todd County, KY and Belew’s Chapel in Gibson County, TN.

Pallbearers were: Brian Elliott, Stephen Elliot, Roy Hamm, Mary Barnes, Greg Jones, and Phillip McCartney.
